Practice Policies

Freedom of Information Act 2000

The practice publication scheme is a guide to the information routinely made available to the public.

This is available at:- www.foi.nhsuk/practiceid5133 or by written request from the Practice Manager.  (A fee will be made for hard copies)

confidentialityPatient Confidentiality

Patient information is strictly confidential and will not be divulged to any other party except with your written permission. All data held on the computer is registered under the Data Protection Act. Medical students/trainees must adhere to the code of confidentiality.

Violence and Abuse

This practice supports the Government’s NHS Zero tolerance to violence campaign. Doctors and their staff have the right to care for others without the fear of being attacked or abused.

A patient who has committed an act of violence or abuse against the doctor, the staff or any other person present, either on the practice premises or in another place where treatment is given by the practice, will be reported to the police and removed from the list with immediate effect.

Further information can be found at:- www.nhs.uk/zerotolerance

Comments & Suggestions

If you have an idea about our services or about how we can improve our surgery in any way, please contact the Practice Manager either by telephone or in writing. There is also a red box in the waiting room in which you post any comments.

Complaints

Sometimes problems arise although we try hard to help every patient with their needs. Should you wish to make a formal complaint the practice operates a procedure to ensure matters are resolved quickly and effectively.

On receipt of a written formal complaint we shall:-

  • Acknowledge receipt within 2 working days
  • Offer an appointment to discuss the matter to which you may bring along another person of your choice
  • Respond with an explanation within 14 days or inform you if this is not possible giving the reasons for the delay
  • Take any necessary action to avoid a recurrence

If you remain dissatisfied with the outcome of our in-house investigations we can provide details of other organizations who will be able to help you further.

Patients Rights & Responsibilities

The doctors and staff are committed to giving you the best possible care and attention at all times. In return, we ask that you treat our doctors, staff and other patients with courtesy and consideration. Sometimes delays do occur and you may be kept waiting for your appointment. Please try to remember that usually this is due to the need of another patient.

Training & Medical Students

All our staff attend regular training sessions to improve our knowledge and skills. We are a teaching practice for Nottingham University Medical School and therefore occasionally the doctor may be accompanied by a student. Our Practice Nurses also participate in the education of trainee healthcare professionals. Although trainees must adhere to our code of confidentiality you retain the right to consult the doctor without the student present.

Chaperones and Physical Examinations

Sometimes it is helpful to both the patient and the doctor to have another person in the room during a physical examination. Please understand that the doctor may ask for a chaperone to be present and will not be offended if you yourself wish another person to be present.
